In 1978, Palle Rune (a Kenyan of Danish origin), Lee Ngugi (a prominent businessman) and Samuel Waruhiu (a prominent lawyer) purchased 2 farms named Green Park and Grey Lag from Robin Higgin.
Green Park comprised 3,500 acres of alluvial land, some of which was farmed until 1984 when 1000 acres plus Greylag were sold to pay off a bank loan. This left 2,500 acres of mainly undeveloped land, unsuitable for farming. The three men named above set up Green Park Limited and decided to sub-divide the remaining 1,050 acres into 25 acre holdings.
One of the country’s best lawyers was engaged to devise rules for the new company – now known as Greenpark Water Services Limited. The company was formed to ‘’construct, repair, improve and maintain roads, the water distribution system and airstrip of Greenpark.’’
GREENPARK WATER SERVICES LIMITED
The first AGM of the fledgling company was held in February 1992 with Palle Rune – already a director – chairing. At this meeting Lee Ngugi and Samuel Waruhiu retired and a new Board was elected comprising Palle Rune, Tony Church (Chairman), Simon Jenking (Treasurer), Peter Barnes and Brian Howarth. In November 1992, Tony Church resigned citing pressure of work and Mike Harries was elected to the Board and the position of Chairman. At the of end of June 2014 Mike Harries resigned and Torben Rune is currently the Chairman with effect from July 2014.
